How often do I have to seal my granite?

All natural stones have tiny "pores" in their surface area. Therefore, a sealer must be applied to prevent staining from outside sources. The number of pores and the composition of the stone dictate the frequency that the sealer needs to be applied, along with the type of cleaning products used to clean the surface.  Stronger cleaning products will break down the sealer more quickly than a mild soap and water. The status of the sealer should be checked periodically. Place a drop of water on the countertop and leave for 30-40 minutes. If a dark halo forms outside the drop of water, this is an indication that the sealer is breaking down and needs to be renewed.
