What is slab granite?

Slab granite is sliced pieces from large blocks of stone which vary in size. Slab granite is the most commonly sold form of granite and is available from all stone distributors. Slab granite is sold by the piece or lot, and therefore, necessitates typically buying more than the actual fabricated quantity. For example, a 70 SF kitchen would require purchasing two slabs of granite. If the slabs were 60 SF each, 120 SF would be purchased. Typically the 50 SF not being used would be charged back to the customer as waste, because the remaining quantity cannot be used for another job, due to the color and texture of the future purchased slabs not matching. This can significantly raise the cost of the fabrication.
